Rising concern
The Star (6/5/08): The Dewan Rakyat will be debating an emergency motion on sharp increase of price for rice at 4.30pm Tuesday after a motion tabled by Salahuddin Ayub (PAS - Kubang Kerian) was allowed.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar held that Salahuddin's motion was specific, of public interest and urgent.
Salahuddin, in his motion, said price of a 5kg rice (Super A) rose from RM8 to RM13.50, an increase of RM5.50 while 10kg pack now cost RM27, an increase of RM11 compared to its old price of RM16.
Salahuddin also said imported fragrance rice increased between RM8 and RM10 for 10kg pack.
