Stir over numbers
Opposition fails first test of solidarity even before the 12th Parliament begins.
NST (29/4/08): The Barisan nominees won: Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar received 157 votes instead of the expected 140, while Datuk Ronald Kiandee got exactly 140. Opposition candidate Dr Tan Seng Giaw received only 81 of the expected 82 votes.
“How come nobody said anything about BN candidate Wan Junaidi picking up 17 extra votes? Opposition members also voted for him...” said Datuk Ibrahim Ali (who contested on a Pas ticket but sits as an Independent in the House). The maverick Kelantan MP was also the only one not in a dark suit at yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony.
The 12th Parliament is already beginning to live up to its promise of exciting times in the House...
